Benny graduated from Lamar County High School in 1961.  He was a lifelong member of Union Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Vernon, where he served faithfully as a member of the cemetery committee and a as Deacon for more than 37 years.  He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Army National Guard after 28 years of service, and from International Paper Company in Moundville after 13 years.  He spent the majority of his life working in the sawmill industry.  He loved to work on cars and tractors and could fix almost anything.  Benny was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He had a quick wit and a servant's heart, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

His family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. John Miller and Hospice of West Alabama, particularly the in-home caregivers.  Your kindness and compassion have made this journey so much easier.  Also, thank you to our dear friend Dr. Harvey Edwards, his wife Debbie, and the doctors and staff of West Alabama OB/GYN.
