Brenda C. Markham, age 80, of Detroit, AL, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Heritage Health Care and Rehab in Tuscaloosa, AL. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2023 at 11:00am from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Carter Cemetery. Bro. Tommy Spruiell to officiate.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the funeral service from 10:00am until 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, she asks that contributions be made to Detroit First Baptist Church or Carter Cemetery.

Brenda Carolyn Guyton Markham was born in Sulligent, AL on November 28, 1943 to Herman Clayton Guyton, Sr. and Annie May Davis Guyton, both of Sulligent.  She was married to Russell Platt "Pat" Markham of Detroit for over 50 years.  She has one child, Russell Patrick (Jenifer) Markham and two grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth and Claire Isabella, of Northport, AL.

Brenda graduated from Sulligent High School in 1962.  She was a member of Detroit First Baptist Church.  She worked at Detroit Slacks, Robertson Bro., Amsouth Bank, and retired from being a secretary at Detroit Elementary and Sulligent Elementary after working 25 years for the Lamar County Board of Education.  She has spent the last almost five years living in Tuscaloosa, AL in the Pine Valley Retirement Community, where she served as an ambassador.  She made many new friends and enjoyed lots of good times with her friends in Tuscaloosa.

She has two sisters, Wanda (Wayne) Johnson and Betty (Larry) Lann, both of Sulligent.  She has two brothers, Herman (Shirley) Guyton, Jr. of Sulligent, and Dewitt (Sarah) Guyton of Leesburg, AL.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell "Pat", her parents, and grandparents, Dewitt Talmadge Guyton and Lillie Morris Guyton of Sulligent (formerly from Hamilton, MS) and Benjamin Davis and Anna Petty Davis of Sulligent (formerly from Hamilton, MS).
