Carol Reid Duncan Stephens, age 92, of Vernon, Alabama, passed peacefully from this life, surrounded by the love of her family and the promise of eternal rest in her Savior.
Carol was born on April 20, 1934, in Caledonia, Mississippi, to the late Bradley & Leslie Honnell Duncan. As a devoted Christian and member of Mt Nebo Church, Carol had a strong faith and deep love for family. She lived her life as a reflection of God's grace, guided by prayer, compassion, and unwavering trust in the Lord.
Her faith was not only something she believed, but something she lived daily, offering kindness, wisdom, and encouragement to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 74 years, John Thurman Stephens, who passed on August 31, 2025, and her son, Terry Stephens, who passed away on May 25, 2025. Though she deeply felt these losses, Carol found comfort in God's promises and the assurance of reunion in heaven.
Carol leaves behind a loving family: her daughter, Cherry Christian (Danny); her grandchildren, Brandon Stephens (Tracey), Derek Christian (Ashley), Teralee Stephens Brown (Austin), and Daniel Christian (Grace); and eight great-grandchildren: Brooklyn & Ayden Christian; Ridge, Brooks, & Kinsley Brown; Saban & Jocey Stephens, and Ayden Reifsnyder.
Carol will be remembered for her kind heart, her faithfulness, and her ability to make everyone feel loved and welcomed. She was a woman of quiet strength, whose life was a testament to Proverbs 31—faithful, compassionate, and devoted to her family and her God.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, her family rejoices in the assurance that she is now at peace in the arms of Jesus, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. Her legacy of faith, love, and devotion will live on through generations.
"Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord." – Matthew 25:23
