Dorothy Gideon, age 91, of Vernon, AL passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Generations of Vernon, Vernon, AL.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 2:00pm, from the Freewill Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Sulligent, AL, with burial to follow in Wofford Cemetery.  Bro. Arnold Sheets and Bro. Leon Barnes to officiate.  Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00pm until service time at 2:00pm.

Dorothy Rea Barnes Gideon was born on December 25, 1930, in Lamar County Alabama, to the late Roy Hindman Barnes, Sr. and the late Maggie Elliot. Dorothy was a 1948 graduate of Lamar County High School. She worked as an office manager for and retired from Vernon Milling Company, in Vernon, AL. Dorothy also previously worked for Glenn Enterprises. She was a devout Christian lady, a member of the Freewill Chapel, Freewill Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. Ms. Dorothy was also a member of the ladies auxiliary group in her church, enjoyed sewing and cooking.
