Essie Hollis Metcalfe, age 101, of Sulligent, AL passed away Friday, August 13, 2021 at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 2:00pm at New Jerusalem Church of God In Christ with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.  Bishop Samuel Metcalfe, Jr. to officiate.  Visitation will be held at the church prior to the funeral service from 12:00pm until 2:00pm.  The family requests that masks be worn at the visitation and funeral services and practice social distancing.

Essie was born on March 8, 1920 in Lamar County, AL to the late William K. Hollis and the late Pearlee Woods.  She was a Sunday School Teacher, Church Mother, Youth Leader and District Missionary for many years.  Ms. Essie loved to cook and enjoyed making muscadine jelly, canning, making quilts and taking care of her grandchildren.  She was a member of Victory Temple COGIC.
