Eugene "Nig" Hollis, age 88, of Sulligent, AL, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023 from the Sulligent First Baptist Church at 2:00pm, with burial to follow in the Gilmer addition of the Sulligent City Cemetery, the body will lie in state at the church from 1:00pm until service time at 2:00pm.  Bro. Steven Sanderson to officiate the services. Visitation will be held at Otts Funeral Home on Sunday, June 18, 2023 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

Eugene "Nig" Hollis was born December 17, 1934 in Sulligent, AL to the late Marvin Clayton Hollis and the late Ruby Lee Harris. He attended Sulligent High School. Eugene later became a police officer, and served as the chief of police for Sulligent, for several years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Eugene was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 60 years and a member of the Sulligent First Baptist Church. He had previously worked at Conoco in Aberdeen, MS. Eugene had worked for McCoy MFG. in Sulligent, AL. and was also a previous owner of The Polar Bar restaurant, in Sulligent, AL. He married Dorothy "Dot" Ogden in 1986. Eugene was an accomplished golfer, who was actively playing golf up until a month prior to his death. His love for golf awarded him 12 holes-in-one, 10 being at Oak Hill golf course in Sulligent, AL. and 2 at the River Birch golf course in Amory, MS. Eugene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
