Glenda Kitchens, age 78, of Vernon, AL passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 2:00pm at Vernon First Baptist Church followed by immediate family only graveside services and burial in the Vernon City Cemetery.  No public visitation will be held. Bro. Brandon Phillips to officiate.

Glenda was born  on September 30, 1942 in Detroit, AL to the late Leaman "Pete" Knight and the late Velma Lee Pickle.  After graduating from Sulligent High School in 1960, Glenda married James Robert Kitchens from Vernon, AL.  She attended Vaughn Beauty College in Aberdeen, MS.  Glenda worked for several local beauty salons after school.  After having children, she was blessed to be a stay at home mother and homemaker.  Several years later she operated the beauty shop at Generations of Vernon Nursing Home over 30 years.

Glenda was a member of Vernon First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for the 4 and 5 year old class for numerous years, then kept the nursery during worship service.  She can be remembered for serving apple slices to her students as well as making homemade play dough while learning bible verses. She was one of the kindest, most compassionate souls you could find.  She told you she loved you no matter who you were and she meant it.

Glenda was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting her family from Saturday meals to holiday gatherings.  She spent countless hours in the kitchen with her grandchildren and great grands passing down family recipes and teaching them special cooking techniques.

Kelly Edwards (Jonathan), Vernon, AL

Grandchildren: Jade Bostick, Molly Reeves (Ryan),

and Robert Chandler Holt

Great Grandchildren: Crawford Bostick and Ivie Bostick
