James C. Weeks, Sr., age 95, of Vernon, AL, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024 at his residence.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 2:00pm at Vernon First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Crews Cemetery.  The body will lie in state at the church prior to the funeral service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm.  Bro. Brandon Phillips to officiate.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gideons or First Baptist Church in Vernon, AL.

James was born on November 11, 1929 in Crews, AL to the late Jennings Bryan Weeks and the late Lela Lou Collier Weeks.  He was a 1948 graduate of Sulligent High School and later graduated with his Master's Degree from Auburn University in Agribusiness.  He worked in Lamar County with the Farm Training Program. He taught at Whitehead Elementary in Lauderdale Co., AL and then in 1962 he began his teaching career in Vernon at LCHS where he retired from in 1988.  James was very strong in his faith and enjoyed being active and serving in his community.  He was a Gideon, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at his church, member of the Kiwanis Club and an FFA Sponsor at LCHS.  He was also known to be an avid Auburn Fan.  James was a member of Vernon First Baptist Church.  His kind heart and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
