Obituary

Lt. Col. Joe L. Collier, USAF, Ret., age 74, of Beaverton, AL passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL.  The family has chosen cremation and Joe will be laid to rest at the Beaverton Memorial Cemetery.

Joe was born on January 13, 1946 in Beaverton, AL to the late Travis Collier and the late Gertrude Mosley.  He was a graduate of Sulligent High School and later graduated from the University of Alabama.  Joe was a Free Mason for 54 years and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years.  He was the Mayor of Beaverton from 2000 to 2012.  Joe was a dedicated father to both of his boys.  He taught them to hunt, fish, and cook which made for many wonderful cookouts.  Whether it was pitching horseshoes or throwing cornhole bags, Joe usually found a way to win.  It didn't matter what was at stake, he was always a strong competitor.  He also loved to play and talk about all things golf.

Joe lived a life full of adventures through the Air Force, making countless lifelong friends along the way.  He could easily light up an entire room with his genuine smile, quick wit, and bright spirit.  Anyone that met Joe could feel his warm friendly presence.  He will surely be missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
