Joe
Woodham
Apr 19, 1938 — Dec 23, 2020
Vernon
Billy Joe Woodham, of Vernon, AL, passed away on December 23, 2020, after a hard-fought battle with COVID-19.
Joe was born on April 19, 1938, to the late Leo Clayton Woodham and Ella Cantrell Woodham. He and his late sister Mary Sue Woodham Lucas were raised in Sulligent, where Joe attended Sulligent School.
In June of 1958, he married Nellie Rae Price. Together, they made their home in Vernon, where they raised their two children, Mike and Leigh Anne. Joe retired from Chromalox in 2000. Before his tenure at Chromalox, he worked for several Lamar County businesses as well as the Vernon Police Department.
His greatest work was serving as a member and elder at Mount Olive Church of Christ. There, he frequently led singing, his favorite song being "Beautiful." Joe embraced every opportunity to serve God and serve others. The greatest beneficiaries of Joe's service were his family members, whom Joe passionately led closer to one another and closer to Christ.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-two years Nellie Woodham of Vernon; children Mike (Rhonda) Woodham of Vernon and Leigh Anne Walker of Huntsville; grandchildren Katelyn (Anthony) Ashton, Ryan Woodham, Cari Beth Walker, Wes Walker, and Trey Walker; great-grandson Landon Ashton; and several nieces and nephews.
He will be profoundly missed by his family, church family, friends, and all who travel along Buck Jackson Road and have grown accustomed to Joe waving at every passerby from the comfort of his porch.
A graveside service officiated by Sonny McLellan and Ricky McGee will be held at Mount Olive Church of Christ on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, with graveside visitation thirty minutes prior.
Active Pallbearers: Wes Walker, Trey Walker, Ryan Woodham, Anthony Ashton, Phillip Lucas, and Anthony Burnett
