John Robert Carruth, age 88, of Sulligent, AL passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at his residence. Funeral service will be Friday, July 3, 2020 at 2:00pm at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Gilmer Addition of Sulligent City Cemetery. Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. Bill Marchbanks to officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:00pm until 2:00pm.

John Robert was born to the late Charlie Carruth and Velmer Myers Carruth on December 13, 1931. He attended Sulligent High School. While a senior, he left school to enlist in the Navy. This was during the Korean War. John served on the aircraft carrier USS Essex as a photographer. He retired from NAPA Auto Parts. He also worked at Schrimsher Chevrolet and Yerby Chevrolet.  He attended Mullberry Springs Baptist Church. He enjoyed Alabama football and NASCAR.

John loved God, family, and life! John's motto was "It's easier to smile than cry." He always saw the good in everyone.

To know John Robert was to love him.
