OBITUARY
Joshua Joseph Scott
December 20, 1979 - March 3, 2023
Joshua Joseph Scott, age 43, of Sulligent, AL, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023 at his residence. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 3:00pm from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Robert Yocom to officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the memorial service from 2:00pm until 3:00pm. The service will also be live-streamed on the Otts Funeral Home Facebook page.
Josh was preceded in death by his father, Franky Joe Scott; his paternal grandparents; and his maternal grandmother, Ethel Louise Sizemore Evans Flurry.
He is survived by his mother, Esther Louise Scott of Christiana, TN; brother, Mark Anthony Scott of Sulligent, AL; sister, Rachel (Robert) Jolene Yocom of Christiana, TN; nieces, Jazmine (Daniel) Shuster of Murfreesboro, TN, Emma Yocom and Eleanor Yocom; great-niece, Luna Shuster; and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
Since his childhood everyone has spoken of Josh's infectious laugh, tender spirit, and his big, loving heart. He brought happiness, life, and joy into every room he entered. It was simply impossible for anyone to be in a bad mood when in Josh's presence while he was laughing or singing. As he grew older and honed his musical talents, with his guitar and soulful singing voice, he carried us on journeys that traversed a great landscape of emotions. We cried when he sang songs of death, heartache, and longing. And we overflowed with delight and merriment when he sang the upbeat songs of family, friendship, and the comforts of a simple, unencumbered life. And that was Josh at his core: freely giving of his talent to conjure and craft the melodies of the heart with his laughter, his guitar, and his powerful voice. While the world is a worse place with him being gone, the ripples of the songs he sang and the laughs he offered us will continue to ebb and flow for generations. And the "great-big" love he offered his family and friends will remain with us forever.
