Obituary

Larry Winford Vail, age 71, of Vernon, AL, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at the Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle Medical Center, Columbus, MS.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 11:00am from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Oakes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Vernon, AL.  Pastor Ethan Boggs and Reverend Bobby Joe Vail to officiate.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the funeral service from 10:00am until 11:00am.

Pallbearers: Harold Partain, Danny West, John Smith, Justin Abrams, Carter Abrams, and Joseph Vail

Honorary Pallbearers: Ray Waldrop, Southern Cruisers Car Club and Old School Cruisers, past and present maintenance crew from Marathon Equipment Company, doctors and CCU staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle

Mr. Vail was born on Saturday, August 1, 1953 in Millport, AL to the late Lloyd Winford Vail and Willie Quinn Corbett Vail Pennington.  He was a devoted member of Vibrant Church where he served as a greeter.  He was a former member of Oakes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully.

Larry retired as a Senior Maintenance Tech on December 21, 2018 from Marathon Equipment Company.  He worked in Supervision and Maintenance at Fruit of the Loom in Winfield, Alabama for many years.  He enjoyed attending car shows such as the Southern Cruisers and Old School Cruisers.  Larry was an avid Alabama Football fan and thoroughly enjoyed going fishing with family and friends.  He loved his many dogs through the years and could often be found with them in the swing on the porch or walking with them in the woods.  Larry Vail was a loyal and loving husband, wonderful father, and dear friend to many.  His sweet and loving spirit will always be cherished and greatly missed by his family.

Larry Winford Vail was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Willie Quinn Vail.  Larry is survived by his wife and best friend of 52 years, Mary Elaine Waldrop Vail, of Vernon, AL; one daughter, Stephanie Lane Vail Wiggins (Mitch), of Caledonia, MS; two grandchildren whom he loved and adored, Sydney Paige Wiggins and Matthew Douglas Wiggins, of Caledonia, MS; one sister, Sandra Kay Vail Smith (John); and one brother, Joey Wayne Vail (Kim), and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
