Laverne was born in Lamar County on February 29, 1928 to the late Sam Oglesby, Sr. and the late Leila Morris Oglesby.  Laverne was born on leap year and everyone kidded her about being younger than her children.  Laverne enjoyed cooking, keeping house and appliqué quilts. She made each of the grandchildren one.  She loved collecting antiques.  Laverne had many beautiful collectibles when her house burned in 2017.  She loved to work in her yard.  She loved her family dearly and enjoyed keeping the grandchildren.  She read her Bible daily and had read it through eleven times.  She loved her Lord and Savior, was a Christian woman and a great example.  She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Sulligent.
