RUBIN LEON COLE
December 19, 1928-January 4, 2022
Rubin Leon Cole, affectionately known as" Mr. Leon", was surrounded by his family when he
went home to his Heavenly Father and Savior on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. He was 93 years old.
Leon was born December 19, 1928 on a farm in the Wayside Community of Fayette County,
Alabama to Jesse Preston Cole and Golda LeDuke Cole.
Leon proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and received an Honorable
Discharge with the rank of Sergeant in 1948. He then had a career as a sheet metal craftsman
working in Birmingham. Upon his retirement in 1983 he moved to his farm in the Fairview
Community near Sulligent where he raised horses and cattle. His many talents included
horseman, cattleman, farmer, builder and hunter. He lovingly served his family as a husband,
father, grandfather and great grandfather and was a friend to many others. He was a Master
Mason since 1954.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Preston and Golda Cole, brother Lomax Preston
Cole, sister Sarah Joyce May.
He is survived by his wife of seventy-two years, Juanita Burnett Cole, daughter Linda Leachman
and son Perry (Janis) Cole. Grandsons Stephen Leachman (Katie) and Brandon Cole. Great
granddaughters Abbie Leachman and Avery Leachman and sister Bertie Mae McDonald.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Otts Funeral Home, Sulligent, Alabama,
from 10:00am – 12:00 noon. Graveside service and burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Church,
Guin, Alabama. Bro. Scott Stokes to officiate.
Pall Bearers are Stephen Leachman, Brandon Cole, Freddie Burnett, Max Burnett, Leo Burnett,
Mark Burnett, Mike Burnett and Edwin McDonald. Honorary Pall Bearers are Herbert Scott, Joel Hubbert,
J. W. Sandlin, Larry Timm, Danny McDonald, Jesse Barnes, Tim Barnes and his Friends at
Northwest Alabama Livestock.
