Margaret June Hanratty, age 74, of Detroit, AL, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at UAB in Birmingham, AL.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 2:00pm at Detroit Church of God with burial to follow in Carter Cemetery.  Bro. B.J. Mills and Bro. Aaron Gann to officiate.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

Margaret was born on December 25, 1951 in Sulligent, AL to the late Alvis "Hershel" Thompson and the late Exie Mae Herron Thompson.  She was a 1970 graduate of Sulligent High School and later attended college in Phil Campbell before receiving her Master's Degree from MUW.  Margaret was very involved in   her community and her church, where she previously served as secretary.  She loved working outside and going shopping, but her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family which she adored.  To say Margaret was active in the lives of her children and grandchildren is putting it mildly, because there wasn't a day that went by that she wasn't helping take the kids to school, traveling to their ballgames, going with them on a field trip or helping with various school and church functions.  She dedicated her life to her family and left a beautiful legacy of unconditional love, humble kindness and a true servant heart.  Her sweet, gentle and loving spirit will always be cherished and forever missed by all who loved and knew her. Margaret was a faithful member of Detroit Church of God.
