OBITUARY
Neal "Mack" McArthur Johnson, 72, of Vernon, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at his residence. He was born on April 8, 1951, in Fayette, Alabama, to Arthur and Eloise Johnson.
"Mack" is survived by his wife, Gloria Sue Johnson, their two daughters, Carol (Trent) Nairemore of Vernon, and Lisa (Stephen) Reeves of Sulligent, and three grandchildren, Samantha Nairemore of Sulligent, Garrett Nairemore of Vernon, and Ashlyn Reeves of Sulligent. He is also survived by his four brothers, Dale, Joe (Gwen), Tom (Margaret), and Farrell Johnson, all of Fayette, as well as two sisters, Lottie Parker, of Vernon and Dorothy (Joe) Garcia, of Fayette and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Johnson, his parents, Arthur and Eloise Johnson, his sister, Jeanette Johnson, and his two brothers, Bob and Avon Johnson.
"Mack" attended Fayette County High School and later became a Master Carpenter, and known for his excellent craftsmanship. He built many homes in Alabama and Mississippi. Later, he went to work at Marathon Equipment, where he retired. He was affectionately known as "Paw Paw" at Marathon, and was quite the jokester and prankster. He was known for his sense of humor, and always able to bring a smile to one's face. In addition to his passion for carpentry, he was also an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time on the water.
He was a devoted family man, he was married to Sue, for Fifty-one years. His two daughters and his three grandchildren brought him immense pride and joy.
He received Christ at Mt. Olive Church of Christ and, until his health no longer allowed, attended Bethel Church of Christ in Vernon.
As "Mack" wished, there will be no memorial service, and he will be cremated. His love for his family will forever be cherished, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
