OBITUARY

Ms. Peggy Holliday Barker Smith, age 93, of Sulligent, AL, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 2:00pm at Crews Community Church with burial to follow in Crews Cemetery.  Bro. Tom Ward to officiate.  Visitation will be held at the church prior to the funeral service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Crews Cemetery Fund, c/o Pat Crutchfield, 194 Nixon Road, Sulligent AL 35586.

Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Crews Community Church.

Peggy was born on October 6, 1929 in Sulligent, AL to the late Brown Lee Holliday and the late Dollie Warlick Holliday.  She attended Sulligent Schools.  Peggy retired from Reltoc in Winfield, AL, having previously worked at Health-Tex in Guin.  She absolutely loved her church and enjoyed the fellowship of her church family.  Peggy liked to sew and especially enjoyed being outdoors working in her garden.  Her kind and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all her knew her.  Peggy was a member of Crews Community Church.

A special thank you to nieces Pat Crutchfield, Margaret Turman, Annie Huguley and Peggy Sue Duncan for all their love and devotion and to caregiver Ms. Lynda Stewart.

Survivors include her son, David Barker (Lisa); sister Brenda Martinis; sister-in-law Mary Dell Barker; grandchildren Rachael Pope (Josh), Jason McGee, Leanna Barker (fiancée Nick Garner); great- grandchildren Lincoln Pope and John Ashley McGee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She is also survived by step sons Robert Smith (Cheryl) and Jeff Smith (Mari); step daughters Mary Lou Cull and Linda Sewell; step daughter-in-law Diane Martin, step grandchildren LeeAra Krieger (Andy), Joy Welch (Mark), Nicole Richey (Neil), Alan Martin (Sheila), Kelly Whitaker (Bradd) Kristy Martin, and Kandis Martin.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vester Lee Barker; her second husband Robert Ira Smith; her parents Brown Lee Holliday and Dolly Warlick Holliday; brother Robert Holliday; brother-in-law Joe Martinis; stepson Royal Martin and step sons-in-law Jim Cull and Dr. Aubrey Sewell.
