Alma Audeen "Peggy" Stone

Peggy Stone, age 84, of Detroit, AL passed away Monday, August 17, 2020 at her residence. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 6:00pm at Kingsville Cemetery in Detroit, AL.  Bro. David Gifford to officiate.

Peggy Stone, born Alma Audeen in October of 1935, lived a full life with no regrets. Growing up in the Depression taught her the value of hard work. She began life working in the fields alongside her mother, father, and brother picking cotton for 50 cents a day. This was the start of a work ethic that just never quit. She would eventually work her way into garment plants like Tollgate and Detroit Slacks until their closing. Working well into her 70's, she cleaned businesses and her local church. If she did not answer the phone, she could often be found on the lawnmower, or with the weed-eater, tending her flowers that were her most prized possession, or standing in the middle of her garden with a satisfied look on her face. She was proud of the life that she lived and the work that she did, and would repeatedly tell her descendants that she "worked hard for everything she had, and didn't want anything that wasn't hers."

Family meant everything to her. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces. Every year at Christmastime, she would claim that she "didn't want anything, she just wanted all her kids and grandkids at her house on Christmas morning." They always got her something anyway, which made her mad that they didn't listen to her. She was always happy to tell anyone that would listen about her children and grandchildren's accomplishments, and although she had no education herself was humbly smart and incredibly funny.

Peggy was a dedicated servant and follower of Jesus who believed in the power of prayer. She was a faithful member of the Detroit Church of God for all of her life and was instilled with the hope that she would see Jesus face to face. She was an example of everything a Christian should be. She made sure that no one went hungry as long as she was around. She picked up local children and brought them to church every time the door was open. She quoted scripture with authority, was a friendly face to anyone she talked to, but most importantly was a friend to sinners and loved them in spite of themselves. Her family celebrate the fact that her death means that she has rejoined family, friends, and her savior around the throne.

She is survived by her son Richie Stone (Mitzi), daughter Sherri Armstrong (Jimmy), grandchildren Seth Armstrong (Sara), Tyler Stone (Tessie) and Hannah Stone, her great-grandchildren, Tucker Chaney, Thaylen Stone, Titus Stone, and Ivy Scout Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Myrtice Clifton, brother Charles Clifton, and husband Bobby Stone.
