Rolland Flynn, age 85, of Sulligent, AL, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at UAB St. Vincent's East in Birmingham, AL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 11:00am from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Gilmer Addition of the Sulligent City Cemetery. Bro. BJ Mills and Bro. Edward Puckett officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10am until service time at 11:00am.

James Rolland Flynn, 85, of Sulligent, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026 surrounded by family. Rolland lived a life marked by hard work, dedication to family, and a love for sports, reading, and the friendships he made throughout his life.
Rolland married the love of his life, Doris Jean Hanson Flynn, on June 10, 1961. Together they shared many years of marriage until her passing on May 7, 2010. They both were members of Mulberry Springs Baptist Church.
A 1960 graduate of Sulligent High School, Rolland was active in athletics and proudly lettered for three years in both football and basketball as a member of the varsity teams during his sophomore, junior, and senior years. During his high school years, he also worked at Western Auto in Sulligent. He later served his country as a member of the Alabama National Guard for 11 years.
At the age of 18, Rolland began his career in the garment industry, starting in the shipping department at Glenn Manufacturing in Gattman, Mississippi. Through years of hard work and dedication he advanced to General Manager of several factories within Glenn Enterprises, including facilities in Gattman and Amory, Mississippi, as well as Sulligent, Vernon, and Detroit, Alabama. In the later years of his career, his work took him to South Carolina, New York City, Miami, Florida, and the Dominican Republic.
Rolland enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed reading throughout his lifetime.
Rolland is survived by his two daughters, Alanna Flynn Parham (Jim) of Tupelo, Mississippi, and Marla Ann Flynn Serena (Bryan) of Trussville, Alabama; his grandson, Bryson David Serena of Trussville, Alabama; and his granddaughter, Ella Rilyn Serena of Trussville, Alabama. He is also survived by his sister, Hazel Flynn Clearman of Vernon, Alabama; his brother, Bobby Joe Flynn of Heath Springs, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Jean Hanson Flynn; his parents, Kelsie and Bessie Finch Flynn; and his brothers and sisters, Clyde H. Flynn, Coy Lee Flynn, Gladys Flynn Taylor, Romie Flynn, Evelyn Flynn Chandler, Cledus Bill Flynn, Joyce Flynn Sheffield, and Charles Wayne Flynn.
Rolland will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love for his family, dedication to his community, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey.
