Roy Wilburn Duncan, Jr., age 80, of Sulligent, AL, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Walker Baptist Medical Center, Jasper, AL. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 2, 2024 at 2:00pm from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Sulligent City Cemetery, Bro. BJ Mills to officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday just prior to the funeral services from 1:00pm until 2:00pm.

Roy Duncan, Jr. was born on October 4, 1943 in Jasper, AL, to the late Roy Wilburn Duncan and the late Delia Terrell. Roy was known as "Junior" to family, "Daddy" to three, "Pawpaw" to his prized grandchildren, "Mr. Roy" to a lot more, a generous friend to countless people. He was never "Mr. Duncan." He loved cheering on Alabama football, examining classic cars, playing innumerable card games, dealing hands of Rook, listening to country music, watching Elvis Presley movies and Westerns, recognizing old actors on television, traveling to the mountains and to the West, and his talking to his friends, so many friends. In his younger years, he had a penchant for the water, particularly driving a ski boat or deep-sea fishing, hobbies he relished when time, health, and money would allow. Until retirement, he devotedly worked hard -- too hard -- for thirty-five years at 3M, which he did for his family; however, at the job in Guin, he gained friend upon friend and he gathered story upon story. On occasion, Roy recited a joke or two, but more often would recount a fascinating anecdote with an ending to leave you laughing. He loved hearing any news and he listened for all the details. Everyone had warm words to say of how he was, who he was, what he'd done, how he'd helped. He had a generosity that was palpable. If he saw you, he asked about you, your family, friends, your job. All of it sincere; all of it he loved to hear; all of it he could recall. Had you not seen Roy for a while, don't worry: he asked of you; he knew what you had been doing; he found interest in you; he cared.

He was a constant a family gatherings. His love for family goes unrivaled. It is a love that will endure any passage of time. He will be missed profoundly.
