Vernon Wood Adkins III, age 74, of Vernon, AL, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at DCH in Tuscaloosa, AL.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00am at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Vernon, AL.  Bro. Doug Wharton to officiate.  Visitation will be held at the church prior to the funeral service from 10:00am until 11:00am.

Vernon was born on October 8, 1949 in Bessemer, Alabama to the late Vernon W. Adkins and the late Sarah Johnson Adkins.  He was a 1968 graduate of Bessemer High School and later attended Livingston State University where he was a member of the wrestling team. Vernon chose a career in the trucking industry.  He loved music and growing things, and was gifted in so many ways.  He will be remembered as a good friend with a heart of gold and a great sense of humor.  As his health failed in recent years, his motto became "never give up".  His kind and loving spirit will always be cherished and greatly missed.

He is survived by siblings; Roy W. Adkins (Stephanie) and Billie Spann (Tom), daughters; Sarah Cook (Tyler) and Candace Bean (Robert), 4 nieces and 6 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by parents; Vernon W. and Sarah Johnson Adkins and son; Wesley Adkins
